Cautiously Optimistic

by rightantler on July 10, 2010

Well I missed a couple of days 300 words, although I did post yesterday it was simply to share a video rather than a full piece. I can’t say I’m feeling guilty but I can say that I missed writing and intend to correct that starting here. I

A number of positive things have popped up in the last few days which put me in mind of the phrase ‘cautiously optimistic.’ To start with, my good friend Jim, put up a post indicating a trying period is coming to an end. The last year has been hard for many people I know so it’s good to read an account of someone who can see the other side.

Next up: Martin, my boss back in Blighty; shared on Facebook that his kids are doing really well. One after her first year at University, another in Grade 12. Lot’s of well deserved paternal pride. Amazing as I’m sure the girls weren’t that old when I saw them last! Martin’s brief updates on Facebook always make me smile.

At this point I should mention that here in Vancouver, summer has finally arrived. A few days of soaring temperatures and a distinctive yellow orb in the sky have been well received by the whole city. I haven’t even heard the normal flip-flop from people i.e. instead of complaining there’s no sun, they complain it’s too hot. I guess it really has been a long wait this year!

Yesterday I caught up with another good friend and hearing his news and energy coupled with some progress on my own projects made for an uplifting feeling. As I write, I am being serenaded by chickadees and nuthatches. Maybe later a woodpecker will visit or maybe a goldfinch will sing for me. It’s that kind of day.

What’s happening in your world?

EDIT: The woodpeckers (plural!) have arrived!!
