Road Trip Christmas 2008 – Day 12 Portland to Home

by rightantler on January 1, 2009

I spent our last morning lazing around in our hotel room whilst my wife, Leftantler went off to look round the shops in Portland. We checked out and pointed our little car north one more time. It found it's way to the next Starbucks on route and later to Bellis Fair, where we wanted to look round a Target store. A colleague of mine in the office always goes nuts for this store whenever the opportunity arrises to travel to the US.

For me the store was a bit like an up market Real Canadian Superstore crossed with the UK based Tesco. I wandered around a bit, being a boy found my way to the TVs etc. I learnt a little about something called Blu-ray and realised  the smallest TV which would show it off effectively seemed to be 40" or above. I can't ever imagine having such a monstrosity in my living room, so I guess that's one expense I won't need to incur!

Foolishingly we decided to indulge in the first fast food of the trip as we headed to the border. To avoid free advertising lets say a crown was involved. We do this once in while, thinking it may have changed, inproved or something. Sadly we were wrong. It defies belief that combining 'beef,' bacon and cheese could taste of … well nothing actually. Eating fast food is a bit like the redial feature of your cellphone. Everytime it fails to connect the gap between attempts increases. I think we are up to at least a couple of years now.

So we returned home to Vancouver. The roads were pretty clear, although it's clear we missed much of the snowy excitement. This winter's been harsh so far, it was glad to get away from it for 12 days. Our trusty steed in all this derserves mention here. 2,386 Miles since we left home,  about 3,835 kilometres apparently. I'll close with an appropriate picture :-)
